The project has a total capacity of 50MW.

Genex Power’s 50-megawatts Bouldercombe Battery Project in Queensland has started operations which could power over 4,000 homes.

In a statement, Powerlink Queensland said the project, which can store 100 megawatt-hours of energy is installed next to its Queensland SuperGrid substation.

The project is composed of 40 Tesla Megapack 2.0 batteries.

“Powerlink’s Bouldercombe Substation now has a new 132kV substation bay to accommodate the new battery to safely and efficiently transfer this stored energy,” said Powerlink Chief Executive Paul Simshauser.

“Batteries will continue to play an important role in a low emissions future, offering the ability to dispatch energy on demand and providing essential power system services such as frequency control, which will help to keep the grid in a secure operating state,” he added.
