EnergyCo and Ausgrid ink deal for Hunter-Central Coast REZ construction
Ausgrid will deliver and maintain the project’s new network infrastructure.
New South Wales’ EnergyCo has signed a project deed with network operator Ausgrid to deliver the Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Network Infrastructure Project.
In a statement, EnergyCo said this means Ausgrid can begin construction on the project to deliver an additional one gigawatt of transfer capacity.
The REZ is expected to connect approximately 1.8 gigawatts of new renewable generation and storage.
“The Project Deed signing follows a revenue determination by the Australian Energy Regulator, signalling the Regulator’s acceptance that Ausgrid will deliver the project in a prudent, reasonable and efficient manner, to ensure the lowest possible cost recovery impacts on energy consumers,” EnergyCo said.
Construction is expected to start in early 2026. Ausgrid will deliver, operate and maintain the project.
