Gaya substation to ease Bihar energy woes

The construction of the 765/400/220 kV Gaya substation, the largest in the State of Bihar, has commenced.

This substation will be the part of Transmission System associated with DVC & Maithon RB generation projects. It has a power transformation capacity of 5,130 MVA. It will serve as an important pooling station in the Bihar for generation projects of DVC and Maithon RB and other future projects of Eastern Region. This substation shall be an integral part of national grid and shall strengthen the interconnection of Bihar grid with other States/Regions.

Bihar is facing serious power crisis as the state receives 750-900mw from the central pool despite the scheduled allocation of 1,553 mw per day. The power-starved state's daily demand is about 3000 mw.

Shri Sushil kumar Shinde, Hon’ble Union Minister of Power, who laid the foundation stone of the 765kV power grid substation at Gaya, Bihar said his ministry would take measures to meet the electricity requirements of Bihar, essential for growth of the state.
