HZL to invest $190M in wind capacity expansion

Hindustan Zinc Limited plans to invest US$190.78 million in expanding its wind power generation capacity.

The firm, a subsidiary of India-based Sterlite Industries, will add 150MW to its current wind power generation capacity of 125MW by constructing wind farms in the Indian states of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Hindustan Zinc Limited will complete the project in two phases, of which the 50MW first phase is expected to be completed by March 2011 and the 100MW second phase in September 2011.

Along with the existing power sale, the excess energy generated as a result of the expansion will be sold to the respective state grids.

On completion the firm's wind power generation capacity will reach 275MW.
