Japan eyes rolling out smart metres by early 2020s

Fuel cells are to be launched too.

According to a report, Japan proposes to launch smart metres on commercial, industrial and residential buildings come early 2020s. It also eyes launching fuel cells to 5 million homes.

Both of these proposals target cutting power consumption to make up for the shutting down of Japan's nuke reactors.
