JERA’s Anegasaki Thermal Power Station New Unit 1 starts operations

The LNG-fired power station has a capacity of 650MW.

The 650-megawatt (MW) Anegasaki Therman Power Station New Unit 1 which JERA is replacing through its subsidiary, JERA Power Anegasaki G.K., started operations.

In a statement, JERA said the liquified natural gas-fired power station located in Ichihara-shi, Chiba uses a gas turbine combined generation system (GTCC).

The GTCC New Unit 2 and New Unit 3, which both have an estimated capacity of 650MW each, are planned to start operation in April and August 2023, respectively.

The 600MW Unit 5 which uses steam for power generation has been operating since April 1977, whilst Unit 6 started in October 1979.

“JERA will continue to move steadily forward in replacing ageing equipment with state-of-the-art power stations as it works to contribute to a stable electricity supply and reduce CO2 emissions,” it said.
