KEPCO inks deal with Western Green Energy Hub to develop hydrogen in Australia

The project can produce 3.5mt of green hydrogen annually once at full-scale.

Wester Green Energy Hub (WGEH) and the Korea Electric Power Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding the reinforce cooperation in developing green hydrogen production in Australia.

In a statement, WGEH said the project located over 15,000 square kilometres southeast of Western Australia, could produce up to 3.5 megatonnes of green hydrogen annually which would be supplied domestically and internationally, including South Korea.

The project is a staged development of one of the country’s largest proposed green hydrogen hubs.

“This new partnership is recognition of the work we have done to date and, perhaps more importantly, it recognises the opportunities that lie ahead,” said WGEH CEO Ray Macdonald.

“This includes the present update of the Australian Government national hydrogen strategy and the opportunity for priority promotion of regional development, indigenous participation, and a new green export industry for Australia,” he added.
