L&T to develop 185-MW solar PV project in India

It will also build an energy storage plant.

The power transmission and distribution vertical of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is set to build a grid-connected 185-megawatt solar photovoltaic plant with a 254 megawatt-hours battery energy storage system (BESS) in Kajra, Lakshisarai district, Bihar.

In a statement, L&T said the project will be a key element in the eastern state’s “plans to harness renewable energy for sustainable energy solutions towards combating climate change and meeting demand growth.”

The BESS will enable storing solar energy du ring low-demand periods and discharging when the demand peaks. This will also help smoothening the fluctuations in generation, frequency regulation, and voltage support, the company said. 

A. Ravindran, senior vice president and head of renewable strategic business group at L&T said this is a welcome addition to the company’s Renewable EPC portfolio of 18 gigawatt peak cumulative capacity.

“On the battery energy storage system front, we handle more than 1.5 GWh [gigawatt-hours] of storage capacity,” he added.
