NUPPL begins commercial operation of second Ghatampur unit
Final unit of the 1,980 MW Ghatampur project is on track for commissioning in 2026.
Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited, a joint venture between NLC India Limited and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited, has announced the commencement of commercial operations for the second unit of the 1,980 megawatt (MW) Ghatampur Thermal Power Project.
In a bourse filing, NLC India said the start of commercial operations on 9 December follows its synchronisation with the 765 kV grid on 20 July.
With this milestone, two units totalling 1,320 MW are now under commercial operation.
To date, the project’s first unit has generated 4449.84 MUs of electricity, resulting in revenue of INR 2,638.69 crores.
NLC India said the project is on track for completion of the third and final unit in fiscal year 2025 to 2026, taking the total capacity to 1,980 MW.
Upon commissioning of all three units, the project is expected to generate 14,743.08 MUs annually, which will meet the energy requirements of approximately 12 million average Indian households annually.
