Origin Energy secures $48.2m for Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub

The project’s first production is targeted to start in 2026.

Origin Energy received around $48.2m (A$70m) in funding from the Federal Government to support the development of the proposed Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub

In a statement, Origin Energy said the first stage of the project will consist of 55 megawatts (MW) of electrolyser which can produce up to 5,500 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.

The majority of the hydrogen which will be produced using recycled water and grid-connected electricity will be supplied to Orica and will also be available to transport customers.

Origin added that the project's first hydrogen production is expected to start by 2026.

The funding is under the Regional Hydrogen Hubs programme.
