Coal-fueled generation

Clients are working to meet increasing electric demand in the growing economies across Asia. Having access to baseload power generation results in fuel cost stability, reliability and predictability in available electric energy supplies. Modern coal units have many benefits: availability, improved technology and efficiency and improved environmental performance. Clients continue to turn to Black & Veatch for their sub and supercritical coal-fueled power generation needs.

Black & Veatch’s worldwide experience includes more than 120 coal-fueled units, totaling over 55,000 megawatts (MW) of electric generation. The company is currently involved in multiple coal projects in the United States, South Africa, Indonesia and China.

Black & Veatch offers oversight, development support and complete project execution capabilities, encompassing all aspects of coal-fueled power generation projects, including pulverized coal (subcritical and supercritical), fluidized bed and integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) technologies. Clients benefit from Black & Veatch’s strong construction alliances and OEM relationships, design quality and plant availability, and worldwide execution capabilities on complex coal projects. In addition, Black & Veatch delivers complete environmental project solutions. Black & Veatch’s experience and technical expertise provides clients with an unbiased evaluation of environmental control technologies in order to minimize capital and life-cycle costs, and optimize the integration with existing plant systems.

Combustion Turbine

Black & Veatch has long been a global leader in the design, construction, start-up and optimized operation of combustion turbine-based power generation plants. The company has been involved in more than 300 combustion turbine projects, totaling more than 91,000 MW in electric generation, worldwide. This includes simple cycle, combined cycle, combined cycle conversion, cogeneration and repowering projects for utilities and power producers, as well as industrial power applications.

Black & Veatch fully utilizes its integrated global workforce to deliver world-class combustion turbine projects for its clients. In 2007, the Shidongkou Power Station near Shanghai, China, was awarded the "Best Asian Gas Power Plant" by Asian Power magazine. The project team included professionals from Black & Veatch’s Beijing, Bangkok and Kansas City, Missouri, office locations.

The company is currently engaged in several combustion turbine projects in Indonesia, China and Thailand.

Black & Veatch uses the right proven technologies to reduce end-user risk and provide best life-cycle benefits, and integrate smoothly with current or other technology. Our reliable technology meets performance guarantees with measurable standards for cost and schedule.

Clients rely upon our technologies for industry-best project execution and superlative risk management techniques as crucial to success. No matter the technology that is in place or the new plant plans that are in development, Black & Veatch provides comprehensive combustion turbine capabilities. The company has utilized combustion turbines from every major manufacturer, both aeroderivative and large frame combustion turbines, and the latest combustion turbine technology, including "FB" and "G" class machines.

Transmission and Distribution

Black & Veatch is one of the largest and most geographically diverse organizations in the power delivery industry. By utilizing its geographic reach and breadth of services, Black & Veatch provides every service needed to plan, study, configure, site, permit, design, procure, construct and commission any type of power delivery facility, providing clients with a single-source prime contractor for all sizes of projects.
