Australia OKs bill certifying renewable energy, low-emission products

It will boost Australia's green industries.

The Australian Government has passed the Future Made in Australia (Guarantee of Origin) Bill through Parliament.

In a statement, the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water noted that the Guarantee of Origin scheme is a voluntary programme. It was designed to certify renewable electricity and track the emissions of low-emissions products, such as hydrogen.

The department said doing so will support the development of Australia’s green industries. This will also help domestic producers remain competitive in new and emerging markets by accounting for the emissions embedded in their products.
