South Korea and US sign deal on nuclear exports and cooperation
This provides a framework to expand civil nuclear power.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed between South Korea and the US to support the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
In a statement, Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy said the deal provides a framework for the parties to cooperate in expanding civil nuclear power in third countries, whilst strengthening their respective administration of export controls on related technology.
The agreement will also provide a pathway to help both countries keep up with the emergence of new technologies in this sector.
This cooperation emphasises both countries' commitment to utilising nuclear energy peacefully and adhering to the highest international standards for safety, security, safeguards, and non-proliferation.
