Australia’s Enervest acquires 300 MW NBB project

Construction is expected to begin in early 2028.

Enervest has acquired the 300 MW Northern Border Battery (NBB), a large-scale battery energy storage system in development, from a Sydney-based energy developer.

The project is strategically located on the NSW–QLD border and connects to the Dumaresq substation. It already has development approval and is progressing through the connection process with Transgrid and AEMO.

The deal comes as Australia prepares for a major transformation of its energy system, with the planned closure of the Eraring coal-fired power station in April 2029 and projected demand for more than 27 gigawatts (GW) of grid-scale storage by 2030. Enervest said the project will play a key role in supporting grid reliability, flexibility, and security during the transition to renewables.

Enervest will develop and operate the asset under its own “own-and-operate” model.

Early works have started, and construction is expected to begin in early 2028.
