Altaaqa Wins Gold at the 2023 Asian Power Awards

The winning project was for the deployment of a 125 MW temporary diesel generator power plant to support the Saudi Electricity Company’s National Grid.

Altaaqa Alternative Solutions Company (Altaaqa), a leading Saudi Arabian Turnkey Utilities Solutions provider, has won Gold in the Standby Power Plant of the Year category at the esteemed Asian Power Awards 2023.

The standby power plant project recognised at the awards was Altaaqa’s Southern Region project, wherein Altaaqa developed a temporary diesel generator power plant with a capacity that reached 125 MW, one of the largest temporary power plants in the region.

Altaaqa rapidly mobilised, installed, and operated the plant in response to the Saudi Electricity Company’s (SEC) request to assist in supporting their existing power supply in the region.

Altaaqa’s ability to deliver this project in record time and support the national grid was highly praised by the SEC. In addition, Altaaqa delivered an additional 40 MW of power to overcome the shortage of power supply in the surrounding industrial and commercial areas.

Altaaqa is committed to supporting the Kingdom’s energy aspirations and Vision 2030. Beyond its significant diesel energy capabilities, the company delivers significant projects in renewable energy, water, and HVAC. Via its subsidiary Altaaqa Renewables (aRE), the company is developing a 119 MWp photovoltaic independent power plant in Wadi ad-Dawasir, in partnership with TotalEnergies and Toyota Tsusho, that will generate renewable energy for the Kingdom’s Central Region.

Altaaqa was established 20 years ago as part of Zahid Group’s ambitions in the Kingdom’s energy sector.  Since that time, the company has emerged as a leader in the supply of temporary energy, with state-of-the-art turnkey solutions that are aligned with the Kingdom’s vision for the future. Altaaqa’s efforts have been recognised on numerous occasions. Prior to receiving the Asian Power Award for Stand By Power Plant of the Year, Altaaqa was recognised by Caterpillar as its 2022 Dealer of the Year.
