Harbin Electric International pioneering the field of innovation technology in operation and maintenance.

Its combined cycle power plant Bhikki has an outstanding power-generating complex that highlights the industry's most cutting-edge innovations.

Harbin Electric International Co., Ltd. (HEI) founded in 1983, has emerged as a cornerstone of China's power industry, standing as a pivotal member of the esteemed HE Group. With nearly four decades of experience, HEI has earned its reputation as the country's largest and most influential firm in power project contracting and power equipment export, the execution of EPC projects, and the construction of related substations, transmission lines, and other utilities in the areas of thermal power plants, hydropower station projects, combined-cycle power plants, and wind power projects. In addition to their core services, HEI offers extensive professional after-sales servicing for power plant operation and maintenance.

In 2016, HEI took a momentous step in boosting Pakistan's power sector by establishing its operation and maintenance company. This marked a significant milestone in their journey to provide unparalleled after-sales services for the power plant in the operation and maintenance sector.

The key to their success is their 1180 MW RLNG-based combined cycle power plant which has a remarkable power generation facility which is boasting the latest H series Gas Turbines from GE 9HA.01. HEI also provides operation and maintenance services at multiple prominent power plants, which include the 1263 MW CCPP Haveli Bhadur Shah Jhang Pakistan and the 660 MW Lucky Coal-fired power plant Bin Qasim Karachi Pakistan.

This synergy produced a staggering combined cycle thermal efficiency of 61.60% and supplied 33.9 billion units of low-cost electricity to the national grid, breaking previous records for the sector.

This commitment to efficiency transforms into tangible benefits to the environment. Reduced carbon foot printing and utilisation of resources efficiently have been benchmarked HEI as an environmentally friendly power producer in the emerging power sector.

To combat climate change and promote environmental sustainability, Harbin Electric International has planted more than 27,500 trees on their site. This initiative has resulted in a substantial reduction of 1,901,328 kg of emissions, exceeding their environmental goals.

Hei’s dedication to reducing carbon emissions is reflected in their plant CO2 emissions is 214 kg/MWh, well below the IFC limit of 325 kg/MWh. Additionally, their Nox plant emissions stand at 28 mg/Nm, significantly lower than the IFC limit of 125 mg/Nm.

Beyond power generation, HEI also takes immense pride in introducing artificial intelligence innovations first time in the Pakistan in power generation sector by the deployment of cutting-edge robots’ technology for plant data logging, monitoring, and area surveillance, with a particular focus on high-risk operations.

HEI implemented an Integrated Management System that empowers the HEI head office in China to remotely monitor live plant data, not only improving the efficiency of decision-making processes but also enabling potential issues to be addressed proactively.

HEI established the first Energy Centre of Excellence in Pakistan, featuring state-of-the-art simulators, including General Electric 9HA 0.1 Gas Turbines and Steam Turbines, as well as the Balance of Plant. The primary objective of ECOE is to bridge the gap between industry and academia.

HEI CSR drive is one of the dynamic initiatives for community development. They operate a free community clinic that serves their local community, providing daily medical check-ups to approximately 70 patients and offering free medicines. They actively engage with local schools, providing training on safety awareness. They provide educational funds to their supporting staff children. They provide technical internships to the local young graduates. This initiative highlights their commitment to the health and well-being of the communities they serve.

HEI has achieved a remarkable series of accolades and certifications, showcasing its dedication to excellence across multiple domains.

In 2022, HEI secured the 1st position in the power sector by the Employer Federation of Pakistan's OSHW “Occupational Safety, Health, and Wellbeing” award, a testament to their unwavering dedication to the safety and well-being of employees. Additionally, HEI earned the prestigious "Diamond category" award for Skill development in the power sector. The company's consistently proven safety and environmental practices are underscored by numerous accolades, including "Fire and Safety" and "Environmental Excellence" awards from the National Forum for Environment and Health and Fire Protection Association of Pakistan, as well as the "Tree Plantation Award" for the past two years from the National Forum of Environment and Health. HEI's commitment to environmental responsibility extends further as it became the first power company in Punjab Pakistan to achieve "Green Office" certification from WWF-Pakistan. HEI accomplished the prestigious “Cooperative Social Responsibility” Award from the esteemed National Forum of Environment and Health.  HEI's commitment to operational excellence is evident in its IMS “Integrated Management System” certification. Furthermore, HEI's dedication to workplace efficiency and organisation is evident through its acquisition of "5S" certification from SNR UK, making it the pioneer power company in Pakistan to achieve this distinction.

The Asian Power Awards recognised the company's overall accomplishment by presenting HEI with the Innovative Power Technology of the Year - Pakistan award. The Asian Power Awards, now in their 19th year, reward businesses and initiatives that have implemented ground-breaking solutions to mitigate the effects of the climate problem and satisfy the rising need for energy.
