PacificLight Power Pte Ltd wins at Asian Power Awards 2025

The company’s two major projects strengthen Singapore’s grid resilience and set new efficiency standards.

PacificLight Power Pte Ltd (PLP) won Fast-Track Power Plant of the Year - GOLD and Power Plant Upgrade of the Year - Singapore in the Asian Power Awards 2025.

In April 2024, the company was awarded a landmark contract by the Energy Market Authority to build, own, and operate Singapore’s first 100 MW Fast Start Ancillary Service facility on Jurong Island, which enhances the reliability of the national grid and plays a critical role in safeguarding the national power system.

The facility is designed to start up within 10 minutes and reach full load in 15 minutes. Co-located with PLP’s 830 MW combined cycle gas turbine plant, it leverages shared infrastructure for cost savings and faster execution. Siemens Energy’s GT800 turbines were selected for their efficiency, hydrogen-readiness, and dual-firing capability, which enables fuel switching during gas disruptions.

Construction began in July 2024 with Jurong Engineering Limited as the construction partner, and, despite logistical challenges caused by the Red Sea shipping crisis, the project was completed in under 12 months. It achieved commercial operations in May 2025. The project also clocked more than 487,000 man-hours without any lost-time injury. With this facility, PLP’s total installed capacity now stands at 930 MW.

In parallel, PLP completed the Advance Turbines Efficiency Project (ATEP) in early 2024, making its plant the first in Singapore to exceed 60% efficiency. The upgrade added 30 MW of generation capacity whilst reducing annual carbon emissions by over 60,000 tonnes, equivalent to removing more than 9,300 cars from the road each year. The initiative positions PLP’s plant amongst the most efficient gas-fired facilities in Asia.
