AboitizPower slates 4600 MW clean energy portfolio for decarbonisation strategy

The company’s RE platform makes it the largest in the Philippines.

Aboitiz Power Corporation (AboitizPower) expanded its clean energy portfolio to 4,600 megawatts (MW) as part of its decarbonisation strategy in the Philippine energy sector.

This includes a 1,000 MW in the pipeline of the company.

AboitizPower has also supported the growth and development of local entities with one out of 5 MW of installed generation capacity. But to solve the electricity demand, it has also commissioned plans for new energy projects with a 1,000 MW capacity, adopting various technologies from solar, hydro, geothermal, wind, and energy storage systems.

From its pipeline, its 159 MW peak (MWp) Laoag solar plant in Pangasinan is projected to be operational by 2024. Construction is underway for its 172 MWp solar power project in Calatrava, Negros Occidental and its 211 MWp solar power project in Olongapo, Zambales – the plant with the most extensive solar power undertaking from AboitizPower.

The 17 MW binary geothermal plant in Tiwi, Albay is expected to start operations by early 2024. And on wind power, two projects are estimated to commence operations by 2025: the 206 MWp San Isidro Wind Power Project in Northern Samar, and the 102 MWp project in Rizal and Laguna.

Every effort to bolster its renewable energy capacity comes from the expansion of battery energy storage systems (BESS), like the 49 MW Maco BESS in Davao de Oro (the largest in Mindanao) and the upcoming SN Aboitiz Power (SNAP) 24 MW Magat BESS in Isabela, which will be operational by 2024.

AboitizPower’s renewable energy platform makes it the largest and most diversified in the Philippines, in note of its installed capacity and operational purview.
