Nominations are now open for the 19th Asian Power Awards and 3rd Asian Oil & Gas Awards

The awards programmes recognise companies that have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and sustainability in addressing the challenges and opportunities in the energy sector.

Power companies in Asia have been buzzing with interest in developing sustainable power, especially with advances in sustainable energy technology as well as sustainable financing. Today, Asia is at the centre of the industry, having brought these developments to leaders across the globe.

It is high time to recognise the top industry players who are contributing to the transformation and growth of Asia's power industry through the 19th edition of the Asian Power Awards and the 3rd Asian Oil & Gas Awards.

The Asian Power Awards, dubbed as the "Oscars" of the power industry, is a prestigious event in the power sector that brings together industry leaders, innovators, and experts to celebrate the most exceptional and groundbreaking projects and initiatives in the region. It aims to recognise the efforts of companies that have taken innovative and game-changing steps to address the impact of the climate crisis and meet growing energy demand.

The awards programmes cover various categories, including Solar Power Project of the Year, ESG Programme of the Year, and Innovative Power Technology of the Year, amongst others. Previous winners include AboitizPower, B.Grimm Power Public Company Limited, Emerson, Asian Development Bank, and others.

Dr Harald Link, President of B.Grimm Power PLC, and Chairman of Ray Power Supply Co., Ltd., spoke about the companies winning last year’s Gas Power Project of the Year - Thailand award and Solar Power Project of the Year - Cambodia, respectively at the Asian Power Awards.

“I think it's a wonderful tribute to the hard work of our people who make this all happen. It's two really completely different subjects and quite different types of projects, so they all face their own challenges and difficulties, especially during this time of the last COVID years,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Asian Oil & Gas Awards recognises players in Asia Pacific's oil and gas sector that have risen amidst fierce competition and increasing pressure to adopt more sustainable practices. The event commends the most innovative strategies and initiatives amidst the challenging environment.

To qualify for the awards programmes, companies must have an innovative initiative, project, or plant that has been completed either partially or fully within the last 24 calendar months or was completed and launched prior to the last 24 months but had recent innovations for further improvement.

“These awards are a testament to the success of Enterprise Data Hub and Enterprise Knowledge Intelligence Hub. [They are] the result of collaborative efforts by multiple teams in PETRONAS. These awards reflect their dedication, determination, and passion,” said Datin Ts. Habsah Nordin, Chief Data Officer of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS). The firm took home three major awards, the Digital Transformation Initiative of the Year - Malaysia, Innovative Technology Initiative of the Year - Malaysia, and Data Initiative of the Year - Malaysia, at the Asian Oil and Gas Awards 2022.

Global clean energy tech market to hit $2t by 2035
This is fuelled by investments as countries aim to enhance energy security. The global clean energy technology market is projected to grow from $700b in 2023 to over $2t by 2035, nearing the scale of the crude oil market, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).This growth is fuelled by significant investments in clean technology manufacturing as countries aim to enhance energy security, maintain economic competitiveness, and cut emissions. Investment is concentrated in regions with established positions in clean energy, particularly China, the European Union, the UK, and increasingly, India.Whilst the US, EU, and India have taken measures to support their clean energy sectors, China is expected to remain the world's manufacturing hub. By 2035, China's clean technology exports are forecasted to exceed $340b—comparable to projected oil export revenues from Saudi Arabia and the UAE.Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Africa contribute less than 5% of global cleantech production value, yet the IEA suggests that these areas still hold opportunities within the clean energy economy. Developing economies, for instance, could leverage competitive advantages to advance in the value chain beyond resource extraction. The IEA said Southeast Asia could become one of the most cost-effective regions for producing polysilicon and wafers for solar panels over the next decade.
