NHPC electrifies 7,87,123 villages

A total of 7,87,123 villages out of a target of 8,03,100 have been electrified by the state-run power major, NHPC Limited, during the FY 2010-11.

 

Of the total number of villages electrified, 2,667 un-electrified villages and 7,48,4576 below poverty line households have been provided electricity connections.

The state of Bihar, at 3,81,714, has the highest number of villages that have been electrified, during FY 2010-11, followed by Orissa, which has been able to electrify 1,82,003 villages, leaving 261 yet to be electrified in the State. Further, the states of West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Jammu & Kashmir have surpassed their targets by electrifying 96,839, 84,214 and 6,303 villages, respectively.

During the 10th and 11th plan, up to May 5, 2011, out of a target of 20,58,725 rural un-electrified villages in the states of West Bengal, Orissa, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), a total of 16,50,298 villages have been electrified, thereby, leaving 4,08,427 villages yet to be electrified.
