Egypt inks $2.3b deal for 2,250MW power plant

The plant would be built in Luxor province in Southern Egypt.

Reuters reports that Egypt's electricity minister said the country inked a deal with Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power to build a $2.3b power plant in Southern Egypt.

The plant, which will have a capacity of 2,250MW, would be built in Luxor province in southern Egypt, the minister told reporters. It could be operational by 2023 at the latest.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi opened three new power stations in July built at a total cost of $7b as part of the country’s plans to plug a gap in power generation and fuel its development drive.
