ENGIE's 85MW geothermal plant in Indonesia begins commercial operations

The electricity will be sold to PLN under a 30-year PPA.

ENGIE’s first geothermal power generation plant in Indonesia has begun commercial operation, the company announced.

The first phase of the Muara Laboh high-temperature geothermal power plant project can generate 85MW of renewable electricity, equivalent to the total consumption of about 340,000 Indonesian households.

The electricity will be sold to state-owned electricity company PLN under a 30-year Power Purchase Agreement.

During the construction starting 2017, the project reportedly provided employment to 1,200 people. It also complies with the environmental and social standards set by lenders such as the Asian Development Bank and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation.
