Australia's 3GW renewable zone opens to investors

It expects to attract $3b private investments.

The government of New South Wales (NSW) in Australia has launched an open season to assess the interest of solar, wind and storage developers with the 3GW Central-West Renewable Energy Zone (REZ). The REZ is expected to attract around $3b (A$4.4b) in private investments.

In March, NSW released its Net Zero Plan Stage 1: 2020–2030, which aims to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. It identified three Renewable Energy Zones in the state that could accommodate up to 17,700 MW of wind, solar and power storage capacity.

The first 3GW REZ would be set up around Dubbo, in the state’s central-west region. Another 4,950MW could be added in the south-west REZ (around Hay) and up to 5,500MW could be added around Armidale in the New England REZ. The government also committed to fast-track the development of the first Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).
