1.44 GW power plant in Malaysia begins operations

It can potentially power nearly three million Malaysian homes.

Infrastructure construction services provider Southern Power Generation’s 1.44 GW combined cycle gas power plant Track 4A Power Plant in Johor, Malaysia has commenced operations on 24 February.

The power plant, constructed by Taiwanese global engineering services firm CTCI under an engineering, construction and procurement contract, debuts two single-shaft generating blocks, each equipped with power generation technology giant GE’s 9HA.02 gas turbine.

Other notable pieces of equipment are the STF-D650 steam turbine, the W88 generator, and the Heat Recovery Steam Generator from GE.

The Track 4A plant is expected to generate electricity enough to power about three million homes in Malaysia.

Further, the plant is managed by GE’s Mark VIe integrated Plant Control System—armed with a single Operator Interface as well as common troubleshooting controls, plant personnel can operate the plant more efficiently and address issues rapidly should they arise.

Pursuant to a 21-year agreement, GE will provide the Track 4A plant with plant improvement services, inspections of the 9HA.02 gas turbines, technical advisory services, as well as digital solutions.
