Indian Oil Corporation’s XP100 fuel bags New Product of the Year award in the first Asian Oil and Gas Awards

The company has launched the nation’s first 100 octane petrol helping the country join a select league of nations globally that has such superior quality fuel.

Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. has bagged the New Product of the Year accolade in the Asian Oil and Gas Awards. In its inaugural year, the awards aim to recognise the best of the best in the oil and gas industry in the Asia Pacific region that have risen above various challenges and remained steadfast despite a very challenging environment.

In a move that can be a potential game-changer in the petroleum fuel retail market in India, IndianOil has launched the country’s first high performing and best-in-class premium fuel XP100 in Indian markets last 1 December 2020. This 100 Octane petrol has a niche market for luxury vehicles that demand high performance and is available only in six countries such as the USA, Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia, Israel, and Greece.

The dispatch of the first load of XP100 was flagged off from IndianOil’s Digboi Refinery which is the country's oldest operating refinery that started the fuel revolution in the country over a hundred years back. With this, IndianOil’s Digboi Refinery etched yet another feat by producing the most superior form of petrol in the country. The effective synergy between IndianOil’s R&D, Refineries and Marketing Divisions made the smooth roll-out of XP100 fuel across the country.

IndianOil’s XP100, with 100 Octane rating fuel, is produced using high octane gasoline produced through Octamax, an indigenously developed technology by IndianOil's R&D Centre. This innovation exceeds IS2796 specifications, ensuring much superior combustion of fuel in the engine. The premium quality petrol is also an environment-friendly fuel with much-reduced tailpipe emissions.

XP100 provides faster acceleration, smoother drivability, enhanced fuel economy, lower engine deposits and a significant reduction in emissions in High Compression Ratio Engine. It results in boosting vehicle performance and results in longer engine life, hence lower maintenance. XP100 offers smooth engine operation with improved performance in terms of fuel economy, emissions and acceleration.

Octane ratings are measures of fuel refinement that helps with improved combustion and avoid engine knocking, which occurs when fuel is prematurely ignited in the cylinder, which degrades efficiency and can cause damage to the engine in the long run. The higher the octane number, the more compression the fuel can withstand before detonating.

At most retail outlets, three octane grades are offered, 87 (regular), 89 (mid-grade) and 91-94 (premium). The Corporation recently launched Octane 99, and now IndianOil has come to the market with XP100.

High-octane premium fuel like XP100 helps extract the maximum performance from sports cars. This includes models from the likes of Porsche, BMW M, Mercedes-AMG and so on.

In October 2021, the Corporation registered the highest sale of its 100 Octane Petrol Engine fuel ‘XP 100’ at its Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) outlet.

XP 100 is the highest premium fuel that keeps cars and bikes engines healthy, minimises knocking, and gives cars a higher mileage. Also, it’s environmentally friendly in nature. It keeps the air clean with reduced carbon emissions. Committed to providing better solutions to all, this IndianOil’s innovation is indeed a testimony to the country’s technological prowess and manufacturing it within their refineries is the best example of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India).
