The future of work: Building a truly hybrid workforce to transform operations in energy & utility firms

Looking to 2022 and the years ahead, intelligent automation will be core to business processes, especially as artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities become synonymous with automation platforms.

Blue Prism is redefining what the digital workers — autonomous software robots that learn and carry out business processes like humans — can achieve at scale by taking over the laborious activities that presently occupy so much of their human colleagues’ time. Organisations will discover that the strategic use of digital workers enables them to successfully operationalise AI initiatives, transforming theoretical research projects into real-world, corporate success stories.

With smarter intelligent automation, digital workers will soon be able to self-heal, whereby they automatically adapt to changing environments and applications, which increases their ability to identify errors and nuances in the systems that they work in.

For intelligent automation to drive business growth and attain optimal productivity levels, both human and digital workforce must forge a symbiotic relationship – the human workforce should see the digital workers as an enabler for positive change, and the digital workforce should integrate seamlessly with the human workers.

While there are limited instances of intelligent automation being applied at scale in Asia Pacific, organisations are nevertheless taking a more strategic view of automation as a future driver of transformation. In time to come, organisations will strive to adopt intelligent automation tools to align with business needs and not just serve as a temporary fix. In fact, Forrester predicts that 5 percent of Fortune 500 companies will adopt the automation fabric — a necessary framework to build, orchestrate, and govern a hybrid workforce of human and digital workers — to fuel extreme innovation in the next year. There is a compelling narrative to Forrester’s prediction insofar as they maintain that “companies with an advanced automation program will obliterate — not merely beat — the competition”.

Energy & Utilities organizations have a lot of challenges to keep them up at night. They must deliver financial stability, improve customer experience, while staying compliant and meeting climate change targets. In navigating these challenges, energy & utilities businesses which more effectively identify opportunities for automation will stand a better chance at realising their business goals in a short amount of time and succeed.

Automation is more than a simple, three-step process of planning, implementing and executing. It should be accompanied by a comprehensive approach that encompasses priorities, rationalisation and future opportunities. While automation quickly delivers value once implemented, an overall directive that aligns it with business goals is still important to ensure that it gets maximised in the long run.

To help energy & utilities firms maximise the benefits from automation, Asian Power has partnered with global leader in intelligent automation Blue Prism on its latest webinar Leveraging intelligent automation to transform operations in the energy & utilities sector.

Join leaders from AusNet Services, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, and Blue Prism in a panel discussion centered on how intelligent automation is transforming energy and utilities operations.
