JERA wins public auction for additional power capacity

It will be carried out from 4 January to 28 February 2023.

JERA Co., Inc. won a public auction led by general electricity transmission and distribution firm for additional power supply for the winter from 4 January to 28 February 2023.

In a statement, JERA said it was successful in the power supply capacity auction for Anegasaki Thermal Power Station Unit 5, Chita Thermal Power Station Unit 5, Chita Daini Thermal Power Station Unit 1, and Yokkaichi Thermal Power Station Group 4 Units 4 and 5. These plants are under a long-term planned shutdown.

Chita Unit 5 and Chita Daini Unit 1 were under long-term shutdown since April 2022, whilst the Anegasaki Unit 5 was under shutdown since September 2022, and Yokkainci Units 4 and 5 since April 2021.

“Going forward, preparations will be made to resume operation of these units,” JERA said.

Around 1.03 gigawatts (GW) of additional power supply capacity was auctioned for the East Japan area and 0.99GW up to 1.9GW in the West area.
