Godda Power Plant’s first 800MW unit goes online

The power it generated was supplied to Bangladesh.

The first unit of the Godda Power Plant with an 800-megawatt (MW) capacity has started operations and delivers 748MW of power to Bangladesh.

In a statement, Adani Power said the power generated from the ultra-super-critical thermal plant will replace the expensive power generation from liquid fuel, bringing down the cost of electricity in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is one of the largest liquid fuel-based power generation plants with an installed heavy fuel oil-based plant capacity of around 6,329MW and high-speed diesel-based plants of about 1,290MW.

Adani Power’s subsidiary, Adani Power Jharkhand Limited, and the Bangladesh Power Development Board signed a power purchase agreement for the procurement of 1,496MW net capacity from a 2x800MW ultra-supercritical power project at Godda.

“The Godda Power Plant is a strategic asset in the India-Bangladesh’s long-standing relationship,” said Mr SB Khyalia, CEO, Adani Power Limited. “It will ease the power supply in Bangladesh, making its industries and ecosystem more competitive.
