Japan’s wind power capacity reaches over 5.2 GW in 2023

The country installed 573.2 MW of wind projects last year.

Japan recorded a total installed wind capacity of 5.2 gigawatts (GW) spread across 2,626 units in 2023, data from the Japan Wind Power Association showed.

In 2023 alone, Japan saw the deployment of 24 wind farms with a total capacity of 572.3 megawatts (MW) in 158 units, according to the association’s preliminary data.

Meanwhile, the country’s offshore wind power sector reached an installed capacity of 153.5 MW across six projects and 39 units.

The country also has 34.2 MW of semi-offshore wind farms deployed in four projects with a total of 18 units installed.
