Korea's MOTIE advances regulatory innovation for hydrogen push

The measures will allow Korean companies to invest in electrolysis and liquid hydrogen.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) introduced measures for practical regulatory innovation to guide South Korea into the global hydrogen powerhouse.

The implementation will involve 49 project tasks for regulatory improvement disclosed through site inspections and business conferences.

In addition, the 13 remaining projects will be reviewed and demonstrated.

MOTIE is taking initiatives adopt changes over the global electrolysis market and the clean hydrogen potential in South Korea, including production, distribution, and utilisation. The measures also call for regulatory improvement to be managed by a public-private joint consultative group for hydrogen industry regulatory innovation.

Any measure promoted will allow companies to invest in global competitiveness in electrolysis and liquid hydrogen and contribute to Korea’s growing infrastructure and clean hydrogen ecosystem.

“For accelerating the clean hydrogen economy and nurturing the hydrogen industry as a new sector, it is of the utmost importance to promptly lay down the safety standards. MOTIE will continue to uncover and tackle challenges that companies face onsite,” MOTIE Minister Dukgeun Ahn said.
