Government RE tenders to reach 102 GW in 2024

China has so far issued 17 GW in offshore wind bids.

Renewable energy tenders for 2024 will reach over 100 gigawatts, with China expected to dominate the issued bids in terms of capacity, according to a Wood Mackenzie report.

Wood Mackenzie said that the offshore wind sector will lead the tenders, comprising over 60 GW, adding that the overall volume will grow and match 2023 levels.

“Government tenders are a primary support scheme for renewable energy deployment across the world,” said Ana Fernandez Garcia, senior research analyst at Wood Mackenzie, and lead author of the report.

“Tenders have increased each year, and Wood Mackenzie expects to see some big rewards in 2024 – the EMEA region will hold more than 50% of expected tenders, mostly for offshore wind capacity," she added.

Fernandez Garcia also added that China will still lead as it currently has announced bids for 17 GW in offshore wind, whilst Germany has issued 25 GW.
