EDC eyes completion of six RE projects in 2024

These include geothermal plants and battery storage systems.

The Philippines’ Energy Development Corp. (EDC) said it is on track to complete six new renewable energy projects within the year as it aims to contribute to providing secure energy supply in the country.

In a statement, EDC said the projects include three geothermal plants, namely the 20-megawatt (MW) Tanawon Binary in Albay, the 28-MW Mahanagdong Binary Plant in Leyte, and the 5.6-MW Bago Binary in Negros Occidental.

EDC earlier inaugurated its 28.9-MW Palayan Binary Geothermal Power Plant also in Albay. The $119.95m (PHP7b) project is now integrated into the grid, providing support to the Philippines’ energy sector amidst growing power demand.

Aside from these power plants, EDC President and CEO Jerome Cainglet said the company is also scheduled to complete three battery energy storage systems within the year.
