Philippines and Korea launch energy knowledge sharing programme

This will focus on renewable energy integration and grid modernisation, amongst others.

The Philippines and South Korea have launched an initiative that will fuel cooperation for a more resilient energy system.

According to the Philippines’ Department of Energy, the 2024/25 Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP) was developed following high-level discussions between the two governments in August 2024. It will focus on critical energy priorities, including renewable energy integration and grid modernisation, advanced battery storage systems, and nuclear energy development.

The 2024/25 KSP serves as a strategic platform for the exchange of expertise and best practices, enabling Manila to benefit from Korea’s advancements in energy technologies. It will also help the Philippines showcase its strengths in renewable energy, particularly in geothermal and pumped hydropower generation.

The Philippines has already submitted three key proposals that align with its energy transition and socioeconomic development goals. These include integrating floating solar and smart grid technologies, and strengthening capacity building for clean energy development.
