India's wind energy output climbs to 57,443 megawatts

Gujarat led all states with 16,086 MW of installed capacity.

India's total installed wind energy capacity reached 57,443 megawatts (MW) as of 30 June 2026, as generation hit 106 billion units in financial year 2025 to 2026.

In line with this, capacity additions jumped to 6,057 MW compared with 4,151 MW in FY 2024 to 2025 and 3,253 MW in FY 2023 to 2024.

India ranked 4th globally in wind energy installation as of 31 December 2025, according to a GWEC Report.

Gujarat led all states with 16,086 MW of installed capacity, followed by Tamil Nadu at 12,273 MW, Karnataka at 8,896 MW, Maharashtra at 6,318 MW, Rajasthan at 5,516 MW, Andhra Pradesh at 4,461 MW, Madhya Pradesh at 3,686 MW, Telangana at 128 MW, and Kerala at 71 MW.

Generation followed a similar pattern, with Gujarat producing 33,706 million units, Tamil Nadu at 24,200 million units, and Karnataka at 18,804 million units, out of a national total of 106,699 million units.

The ministry cited several measures backing the sector, including the Green Energy Corridor Scheme for transmission infrastructure, waived Inter-State Transmission System charges for solar and wind power projects, and a Renewable Purchase Obligation.
