Potentia Energy has secured environmental approval for its Tallawang Solar Hybrid project in New South Wales.

According to the company, the approval was granted by the Commonwealth Government under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act). This is not subject to conditions under the EPBC Act.

The project is located 8 kilometres from Gulgong, Central-West New South Wales.

A key component within the Central West Orana Renewable Energy Zone, the hybrid project will comprise a 500 megawatt (MW) solar farm, a 500 MW/1,000 megawatt hour (MWh) DC coupled energy storage system and associated infrastructure.

Once operational, the project will generate clean energy to power more than 250,000 NSW homes each year.
