AGL breaks ground on 500MW battery project in Tomago
The 500 MW, 2000 MWh Tomago battery will improve grid reliability by 2027.
AGL Energy has broken ground at Tomago in New South Wales, commencing construction of its $800m grid-scale battery project in the area.
The Tomago Battery is a 500 megawatt (MW), 4-hour duration (2,000 megawatt-hour (MWh)) capacity grid-scale battery being constructed at Tomago in NSW.
In a statement, AGL Energy said it aims to commence operations by the second half of 2027
The project is located between the Pacific Hwy and Old Punt Rd in Tomago Industrial Estate. It will provide up to 200 jobs during construction and up to 6 ongoing jobs upon operationalisation.
“The battery has the potential to improve the reliability of the grid by storing power for use when energy demand exceeds generation,” the company said.
