India sets emission standards for green ammonia and methanol
Green ammonia emissions must not exceed 0.38 kg CO₂e per kg.
India has updated the Green Ammonia and Green Methanol Standards for ammonia and methanol to be classified as ‘green,’ outlining emission thresholds and eligibility conditions.
Green ammonia should have a total emission of not more than 0.38 kilogram (kg) of carbon dioxide (CO₂) equivalent per kg of ammonia, as an average over the preceding 12-month period. For green methanol, it must not exceed 0.44 kg CO₂ equivalent per kg of methanol.
The notification further provides that CO₂ for Green Methanol production may be sourced from biogenic sources, Direct Air Capture, or existing industrial sources.
During production, renewable energy also includes electricity generated from renewable sources, which is stored in an energy storage system in accordance with applicable regulations.
