Taiwan incentivises energy storage with $156K-per-MWh support scheme
It will target energy storage equipment using locally manufactured lithium-based battery cells.
Taiwan’s Energy Administration (EA) will subsidise behind-the-metre energy storage systems, with eligible businesses receiving $156,391.73 (NT$5m) per megawatt-hour, to accelerate system adoption.
It will primarily target energy storage equipment using locally manufactured lithium-based battery cells.
To complement this, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) will ensure safety and quality through testing and certification programmes.
Moreover, the framework now extends beyond battery-level requirements to cover system-level integration.
On the testing side, to address previous constraints, the National Centre for Energy Storage System Technology will provide services in 2026.
With a testing capacity of up to 360 kilowatt-hours, the centre will be the only laboratory in Taiwan capable of conducting combustion tests and is expected to reduce testing costs by more than 50%.
