Aboitiz unit proposes $136m wind farm in northern Philippines
Company targets 4.6 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.
Luzon Cleanergy Generation Inc., a subsidiary of Aboitiz Renewables Inc., has proposed a $136.37m (PHP8.4b), 136-megawatt wind farm in Bangui, Ilocos Norte.
The project will cover about 3,321 hectares across the villages of Payac, Bacsil, Malasin, Abaca, Nagbalagan, Masikil, Manayon and San Lorenzo, according to the company.
The wind farm aims to harness Bangui's strong and consistent wind resources to generate clean electricity, helping meet the country's growing demand for reliable and sustainable power while supporting the Philippines' renewable energy transition.
The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) in the Ilocos Region has scheduled a public scoping on July 22, 2026, as part of the project's environmental impact assessment process.
The EMB said the public scoping will allow residents and stakeholders to raise concerns, ask questions and submit recommendations before the project proceeds.
Luzon Cleanergy said the proposed wind farm will help increase the supply of reliable and affordable electricity whilst supporting the country's renewable energy targets of 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040.
Aboitiz Renewables is pursuing an expansion program aimed at reaching 4,600 megawatts of clean energy capacity by 2030. Its renewable energy portfolio currently includes solar, wind, hydroelectric and geothermal projects.
Among its ongoing developments is a hybrid solar project in Barangay Talingaan, Laoag City, where site acquisition is underway. The project is planned to include a 187-megawatt-peak solar farm and a 277-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system utilizing the city's sand dune area.
