Malaysia eyes second place in solar power production

Malaysia will be third largest producer of solar cells in 2020 after China and Germany, says Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.  It is forecasted to  contribute 17 per cent of global production by that year.

According to him, to realize the increase in global production, Malaysia must now increase the capacity of solar cells by 10-fold, from 2.3 GW to 23 GW.

"Companies interested in investing outside of the incentives will be given according to the size of the industry, apart from that we also have well-trained human resources to make Malaysia an attractive investment destination," he said.

The latest project is a partnership relation between the Twin Creeks Technologies, The Red Diesel and the Perak State Development Corporation will make this country as a hub for solar cell production in the region.

Muhyiddin noted that the country is likely to move into second place due to high global demand, in addition to solar cell manufacturers shift the center of the high-cost countries such as Germany to this country.
