NHPC to boost generation capacity by 2012

 

NHPC will ramp up its generation capacity to 5322 MW by the end of the 11th Five-Year Plan in March, 2012.

 

National Hydroelectric Power Corporation had lined up 10 projects with a cumulative generation capacity of 4502 MW in different parts of the country for completion by the end of the 11th Plan, Chairman and Managing Director S K Garg said.

 

Garg said the projects entailed a cumulative investment of US$4.77 billion and the necessary arrangements have been made for flow of funds, according to the REconomic Times.


Out of these projects, the 231-MW Stage-III Chamera project on the river Ravi is slated for completion by mid-2011. The US$ 319 million project would generate 1108.17 million units of electricity per annum at a 90 percent plant load factor.


Thed corporation has already commissioned its 280-MW Dhauliganga hydroelectric project in Uttarakhand, the 390-MW Dulhasti hydroelectric project and 120-MW Sewa-II hydroelectric project in J&K, the 520-MW Omkareshwar hydroelectric project in Madhya Pradesh and the 510-MW Teesta hydroelectric project in Sikkim.
