Acciona Energía breaks ground for PH solar plant
Production will commence next year.
Acciona Energía has conducted a groundbreaking ceremony for its 176-megawatt-peak (MWp) Daanbantayan solar plant on the island of Cebu in the Philippines.
The $130.43m (EUR120m) project is located in the municipality of Daanbantayan, expected to begin operations in late 2026. The plant is projected to produce 280 gigawatt-hours of energy annually, equivalent to the consumption of more than 300,000 people.
The Daanbantayan plant will have a battery system to store energy generated by the plant, allowing electricity to be released during peak demand periods and helping to stabilize the power grid.
For power distribution, Acciona Energía and the provincial government of Cebu have signed the country's first public-private partnership (PPP) in the energy sector.
This project is Acciona Energía first photovoltaic plant in the Philippines and the largest under construction in the Visayas archipelago. The company also began construction of the 100-megawatt (MW) Kalayaan 2 Wind Farm in Laguna and announced the development of another 156 MW wind farm in Pantabangan.
