J-Power begins renovation work at Ogamigo Hydro project
The hydroelectric power plant started operations in 1971.
Electric Power Development Co (J-Power) started the repowering work at the Ogamigo Hydroelectric Power Station in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture which includes comprehensive renovations of the main equipment such as water turbines and generators.
In a statement, J-Power said it will update the main facilities to increase the power output of the over 50-year-old hydropower by 1,300 kilowatts (kW) to reach, 21,300 kW.

The company added that it will implement “state-of-the-art” designs to streamline the facility, improve the plant's reliability and reduce the maintenance need.
This is the eighth repowering project of J-Power, increasing the company's cumulative power output by 30,100 kW.
