Tosa Power Plant ends operations in March 2025

This was due to rising coal prices, amongst other factors.

Japan’s Tosa Power Inc. announced it is terminating its business operations, with its 167,000-kilowatt coal-fired power plant closing down on 31 March 2025.

The company said this decision was made due to changes in the business environment such as the soaring coal prices, the sluggish electricity market conditions, and the government's policy of inefficient coal fade-out.

“We believe that the Tosa Power Plant has been able to contribute to the stable supply of electricity for approximately 20 years since its operation in 2005, mainly in the Shikoku region,” the company said.

“We will continue our business as usual until March 31, 2025, and we kindly ask for your continued understanding and cooperation,” it added.
