RE projects need debt financing, not grants: IREDA
The agency also assured it has a comprehensive approach to project funding.
Authorities from India and Bhutan recently held a roundtable discussion wherein Pradip Kumar Das, chairman and managing director of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA), emphasised that what clean energy projects need today are debt financing at competitive rates rather than grants.
During the Bhutan-India Renewable Energy Roundtable, Das also said IREDA has a 360-degree evaluation approach for project funding, ensuring robust and sustainable financing options.
India said that it is ready to support Bhutan’s renewable energy projects as long as they are within the regulatory framework of the Reserve Bank of India and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
Das recommended rooftop solar and hydro power as possible development areas.
