India’s coal production and dispatch reach record highs in 2024

This aligns with the goal to reduce reliance on imports.

Coal production and coal dispatch in India have both recorded their all-time high last year, according to the Ministry of Coal.

Provision data released by the ministry showed that coal production reached 1,039.59 million tonnes (MT) last year, marking a 7.28% growth from the previous year’s 969.07 MT. This reflects efforts to enhance domestic coal availability and meet growing energy demands, authorities said.

Coal dispatches, meanwhile, reached 1,012.72 MT in 2024 , up 6.56% from previous year’s 950.39 MT.

“This consistent growth in both production and dispatch underscores the sector’s commitment to ensuring timely availability of coal for power generation and other industries, further bolstering national energy security,” the ministry said.
