India’s installed renewables surpass 200 GW: SBICAPS
Guess what fuelled the expansion.
The installed capacity of India’s renewable energy has surpassed 200 gigawatts (GW), supported by additions in solar energy, according to SBI Capital Markets (SBICAPS).
In its report “Utility Beyond Utilities: Harnessing Non-Utility Solar,” SBICAPS said installed capacity registered a 8% year-on-year growth last year.
Solar and wind additions reached around 24.5 GW and around 3.2 GW, respectively, exceeding 2023's pace by a factor of two.
“Solar, in particular, exhibits a trajectory consistent with our forecast of 50 GW of capacity additions across [fiscal year 2025 and fiscal year 2026],” the report read.
Meanwhile, thermal capacity additions, following a respectable FY24, have decelerated in 9MFY25, casting doubt on the feasibility of achieving the FY25 targets, SBICAPS said.
