India's ReNew Energy to set up ₹4,200 crore solar manufacturing plant

Project expected to create over 2,100 direct and indirect jobs.

ReNew Energy Global Plc has announced plans to establish a 6.5 GW solar ingot-wafer manufacturing facility in Anakapalli district near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of ₹4,200 crore.

The plant is expected to be commissioned within 24 months and will create over 2,100 direct and indirect jobs.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the project, highlighting the state’s push to become a renewable energy manufacturing hub.

ReNew said the facility will strengthen India’s solar supply chain by producing key upstream components—ingots and wafers—thereby reducing import dependence and supporting energy self-reliance.

The project is part of the company’s larger ₹82,000 crore investment plan in Andhra Pradesh announced at the CII Partnership Summit 2025.

The investment also aligns with upcoming policy changes under the ALMM framework, which will include wafers and ingots from 2028, improving the business case for domestic manufacturing.
