PT Pertamina starts full operation for Lumut Balai Unit 2 geothermal plant

This added 55 MW to the company’s total installed capacity.

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) has announced that its Lumut Balai Unit 2 Geothermal Power Plant has reached full operational capacity and has started supplying power to the national grid.

In a statement, the company said this development added 55 megawatts (MW), bringing its total installed capacity to 727.5 MW across six operational areas, just

PGE said this follows a 72-hour continuous Unit Rated Capacity (URC) test and the issuance of the Commissioning Certificate on 29 June.

“With this additional capacity, we are not only strengthening the national energy mix but also moving closer to our goal of reaching 1 gigawatt (GW) of independently-managed installed capacity within the next 2-3 years,” PGE President Director Julfi Hadi said.

Hadi said the company will continue supporting the national geothermal capacity expansion target of 5.2 GW during that period.

PGE is also developing several other strategic projects, including the Hululais Geothermal Power Plant Units 1 & 2 (110 MW), as well as a number of co-generation projects with a combined capacity of 230 MW.

The company has also inaugurated the exploration phase (green field) of the Gunung Tiga geothermal power plant in Lampung, which holds a potential capacity of 55 MW.
