Singapore and Sweden deepen cooperation on regional power grid links

They also plan to deepen cooperation on nuclear technologies and safety.

Singapore and Sweden said they will collaborate to enhance collaboration on electricity trading and regional grid development, including High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) technologies and subsea transmission infrastructure to support the ASEAN Power Grid (APG).

They also plan to deepen cooperation on nuclear technologies and safety, as well as explore clean fuel options such as hydrogen and ammonia.

This collaboration was discussed alongside the 18th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW).

The forum builds on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Energy Cooperation signed during King Carl XVI Gustaf’s state visit to Singapore in November 2024. 

It also follows a series of high-level exchanges this year aimed at advancing joint work in areas such as hydrogen, smart grids, and energy efficiency.

Sweden’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Business and Industry, Ebba Busch, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of innovation in driving the global energy transition.

Puah Kok Keong, Chief Executive of Energy Market Authority of Singapore, said: “EMA welcomes the deepening of collaboration and high-level exchanges between Singapore and Sweden on energy technologies and innovation, under the Singapore-Sweden MOU on Energy Cooperation,” 

“These will support ongoing efforts to realise the ASEAN Power Grid and catalyse new ideas and opportunities for the energy transition. We look forward to deepening this partnership and realising a sustainable and secure energy future for all,” he added.
